Stockpiling II: Did you order some chicken?

Note: this isn’t an “official” blog entry but the idea came to me and I wanted to put it down regardless

Yesterday, right after completing the previous blog entry an idea came to me for vanilla Minecraft and the inclusion of multiple BFCs across the server. It has been brought up by myself and the other researchers to have BFC become a franchise establishment across the server, serving the greater good of providing food. But the player must still travel to said location to get the food and that in itself is going out of the way. So the idea of networking the BFCs came to mind. In the tradition of Team Rocket connecting a few teams together via rail system, as well as my own rail system connecting 3 biomes together (that was tedious), the idea of sending out rails from the BFC with mincart chests filled with food suddenly sounded very appealing. Using extensive rails and redstone button mechanisms, the player could (possibly) press a button, activate the rail and have the chest delivered to said location. The chest would be filled whenever players opt to visit the BFC, the price of food could be the physical action of putting some chicken into another chest for other players. All of a sudden, the use of the food and the need for it changes drastically as the player no longer needs to seek food, but rather food comes to the player. If successful, the BFC could become a network of food, providing a digital distribution service for the players. This combined with what we know about and are learning about the commons provides some interesting variables as to what players can do with this service. I for one would love to see a network of rails, not only would it be interesting to see how chicken and other blocks and resources are shared, but the build itself would be fun and could make use of BigHairCutPrime’s duplication machine.
