What is fanfiction, and what is it not? Why does fanfiction matter? And what makes it so important to the future of literature? A world authority on fanfiction and the editor of Fic: Why Fanfiction Is Taking Over the World (Smart Pop, 2013), Dr. Jamison will be speaking on the changing role and function of the author and authorship in fanfiction.

Dr. Jamison received her PhD in Comparative Literature from Princeton University. She is author of Poetics en passant (Palgrave, 2010), Kafka’s Other Prague, a forthcoming book on Franz Kafka and Czech culture, and a number of articles. She also writes young adult fiction. She first read the novel Twilight as fic for The Blessing and the Curse, thereby starting the feedback loop that resulted in ENGL 5960.

Writers Read is one of a long tradition of diverse literary reading series at Concordia University and has hosted authors including Lydia Davis, Roddy Doyle, Mary Gaitskill, Tanya Tagaq, Christian Bok, Rae Armantrout, Charles Bernstein, and, in 2014, Lisa Robertson, Gail Scott, and George Elliott Clarke. Interested attendees can find more information, archival footage from previous readings, and updates on upcoming events at our website, and follow Writers Read on Twitter and Facebook.
