I had completely forgotten the term but it is exactly what I meant to express.
If Hunger Games maps are all about individual survival and even domination, I think that the tragedy of the commons is interestingly contrasting what the term ”survival” encompasses, tying back with both Battle Royal and Hunger Games as books/movies.

The tragedy of the commons denotes ” a situation where individuals acting independently and rationally according to each’s self-interest behave contrary to the best interests of the whole group by depleting some common resource” and is one of the many paradoxes of human behaviour. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tragedy_of_the_commons

Will people play defensively, using a scorched earth policy to negate others from using resources, or will Tributes cooperate and take measures toward sustainability of the commons, thus giving everyone a greater chance for survival? The inclusion of a collective action problem would provide an interesting “opponent” to Tributes otherwise only interested in defeating each other to win.
